Hepatitis C is an infectious disease caused by the hepatitis C virus (HCV) that primarily affects the liver. Transmission of HCV is by transfusion and other parenteral means such as sharing of needles, occupational exposure to blood, hemodialysis, use of unsterilized equipment when getting a tattoo or body piercing, or sharing razors of toothbrushes that are contaminated with infected blood or other bodily fluids.
